A Journey Six Years in the Making

This journey that started more than six years ago, the dream of turning Oh Me Nerves Photography into not just a business but something I am deeply passionate about, has led me right here to this moment.

On Friday, I will board a flight to Winnipeg to meet up with a group of six incredible adventurers. Ages range from 43, which is me, all the way up to 83. How amazing is that? It is proof that adventure is not something reserved for a certain age or stage of life. It belongs to anyone who chooses to live it. These folks have decided to chase their dreams and explore one of the wildest and most breathtaking places on the planet, and I get to guide them through it.

I feel this deep in my chest. I am humbled and honoured. Out of all the guides and organizations they could have chosen, they put their trust in me. That kind of trust is earned. It is built through years of showing up, building relationships, creating connections, learning from the land, listening to those who know it best, and working hard behind the scenes to make these expeditions something truly meaningful.

The part that people rarely see is the work that goes into making a trip like this happen. It is months and sometimes years of conversations, trust building, scouting, securing limited spots, working closely with partners and communities, and curating an itinerary that actually makes sense. It is pricing out flights, transportation, accommodations, meals, guides, insurance, permits, contingency plans and everything in between. It is pouring over maps, schedules, gear lists, travel logistics and still leaving room for the unexpected. Because up north, the land always has the final say.

It is also about creating something that respects the places we travel to. Something that connects people to the landscape and the wildlife in a way that is responsible and unforgettable.

We are heading into a place like no other. A landscape that feels almost otherworldly. This is polar bear country, home to the largest land apex predator on Earth. It is a place where foxes slip through the snow like whispers, where ptarmigans blend into the tundra, where birds fill the silence, and where, if the skies allow, the aurora borealis might paint the night. If we are truly lucky, we may even see wolves or wolverines moving through the wild.

Every journey north has its own story. Every expedition is different. But there is something about watching someone experience the North for the very first time that never loses its magic. Their eyes light up, their breath catches, and for a moment, everything else fades away.

For me, this is not just another trip. It is the result of years of chasing a dream that once felt impossible. It is proof that the long nights of planning, the risks, the learning, the failures and the leaps of faith have all been worth it.

I hope that when this expedition is over, each person walks away with more than just beautiful photographs. I hope they carry with them moments of awe, stories that they will tell for years to come, and the spark to inspire others to step outside of comfort and live their own adventures.

It is an honour and a privilege to guide them on this path. And it is a reminder to myself that this is exactly where I am meant to be.
